The Industrial Revolution 4.0 has triggered the very rapid development of science and technology and a broader complexity. This development has influenced and raised various challenges and opportunities in almost all aspects of life, such as scientific disciplines, education, environment, industry, economy, and health. Artificial intelligence and big data are now two necessary and essential things that everyone should explore and take advantage of them. Although the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted negatively on both health and economic sectors, it has brought significant improvement in various living arrangements, where technological and information literacy seems to be an absolute thing to learn and be able to master.
Mathematics and Statistics together with language programming are the most fundamental sciences required for data science, big data, and artificial intelligence. Partnerships and collaborations between these fundamental sciences with other multidiscipline areas are significantly and highly recommended to improve the quality of problem solving to the real world problems. The forms of those multidiscipline relationships can be done through education, research, publication, as well as community involvement, engagement, and empowerment to improve the quality of life, particularly for those who are living in developing countries and remote or rural areas.
As part of “agent of change”, the study program of Mathematics in collaboration with the study program of Statistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences – Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, has proudly initiated and presented an academic forum to present the latest research results in the fields of mathematics and statistics as well as their applications. The forum will also be expected to become an open discussion for not only among researchers but also among educators, practitioners, and academia worldwide. Therefore, the forum is entitled The International Conference on Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (ICMSS) 2021 with the theme: “Mathematical and Statistical Sciences in Multidisciplinary Research.”
